Assam govt to hold 'Development Fortnight' starting from Dec 5

ASSAM-SILCHAR: Himanta Biswa Sarma, the chief minister of Assam, said on Tuesday that the state will mark a "Development Fortnight" from December 5 to December 18 during which a number of development projects will get underway.

The Assam chief minister made a number of announcements during his speech to the media in Silchar at the office of the Deputy Commissioner of the Cachar district. This was one of them.

Construction of a medical college in Bongaigaon will start the next two weeks, according to CM Sarma. The project will cost Rs 1,000 crores to complete.

A celebration will take place at Nalbari on December 6. They would be held at Morigaon on December 8 and Golaghat on December 9, he said. The Assam chief minister also said that on December 10, construction work on a number of projects will start in Biswanath. On December 15 and December 16, respectively, Dibrugarh and Jorhat would become the centre of attention.

He also mentioned that preparations were in place to build three new fly-overs in Guwahati and that the second phase of the "Development Fortnight" will run from December 5 to 20.

Shifting focus to the unfortunate incident of ragging that happened at Dibrugarh University, CM Sarma said, " the university authorities will also come under the purview of the investigation. A strong response will be taken if there is any attempt to hide information from the investigators.

The CM added that it wouldn't be out of the question to arrest any authority throughout the course of the probe and that it might actually happen.

Following that, CM Sarma focused on the Assam government's flagship "Orunodoi Scheme." In later phases, he stated, the programme would strive to include more beneficiaries.

The Assam government would allocate Rs 4,000 crores each year from its budget for the programme that aims to offer financial aid. According to CM Sarma, the application procedure will start on January 7, 2023.
