Guwahati: Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday (November 25) mentioned the valor of Veer Lachit Borphukan on his 400th birth anniversary. During this, CM Sarma reminded historians that 'India is not just the story of Aurangzeb, Babur, Jahangir or Humayun. Sarma further said that it was the bravery of Lachit Borphukan that led to Assam's decision to oppose Mughal emperor Aurangzeb.

According to the report, CM Sarma further said, 'It is my humble request to the historians, India is not just the story of Aurangzeb, Babur, Jahangir or Humayun. India belongs to heroes like Lachit Borphukan, Chhatrapati Shivaji, Guru Gobind Singh, Durgadas Rathore. This will fulfill our dream of becoming Vishwa Guru. CM Sarma has said that PM Modi always inspires us to bring our history and unsung heroes to light. He has said, 'This is our humble effort to bring the glorious saga of Lachit Borphukan before the country. However, the efforts of the government alone are not enough. Efforts should be made for this from the side of people and historians as well.

Who was Lachit Borphukan?

Lachit Borphukan was a brave general of the erstwhile Ahom kingdom of Assam. In the battle of Saraighat in 1671, under his leadership, the Ahom army defeated the Mughals. In this war, Lachit, despite having fewer soldiers, defeated the Mughal army led by Aurangzeb. In memory of this victory, Lachit Day is celebrated in Assam on 24 November. The Battle of Saraighat was fought on the banks of the Brahmaputra River in Guwahati. Lachit Borphukan inspired the Assamese troops in the Battle of Saraighat in 1671, which resulted in a humiliating and humiliating defeat for the Mughals. The battle fought by Lachit Borphukan and his army is one of the most inspiring military achievements of resistance in history.
