Guwahati:The Guwahati High Court has directed the state government to remove the ban on internet in a phased manner. The court bench has asked the state government to remove it in a phased manner, hearing a series of petitions filed in the wake of the violence and internet ban on the Citizenship Amendment Act in the state.

The state government said before the court that the decision to ban mobile internet is being reviewed on a daily basis and it will be removed completely based on the situation. The government had banned mobile internet services in ten districts of the state from December 11 and journalists, lawyers and others had filed several petitions in the Guwahati High Court against this decision.

Since then, all service providers have started broadband services from 9 am today, while the ban on mobile internet services will continue till December 18 and will be reviewed. At the same time, a high alert has been issued in the Maldah division of Eastern Railway against the Citizenship Amendment Act in view of violent demonstrations at several railway stations in West Bengal along the border of Bihar.
