Anti-terror crackdown continues in Assam, two more jihadis arrested

Guwahati: Assam Police's operation against militants continued unabated with arrests made for two consecutive days for their links with terror outfits. The state police on Tuesday busted al-Qaeda in the Subcontinent, or AQIS by al-Qaeda and arrested two persons belonging to the Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT). Officials privy to the development said the arrest came a day after four others, including a madrasa teacher, was arrested on similar charges.

Based on information received from the suspects arrested on Monday, two more persons have been nabbed. Police sources said the arrests were made during raids in Barpeta, Tamulpur and Nalbari. Two more persons were arrested in Assam on Tuesday for their alleged links with terror outfits, police said. This comes a day after four others were arrested on similar charges. Officials have informed that one accused was caught in the Bajali district and the other in the Nalbari district.

According to a senior official, the Barpeta and Bajali police teams conducted a joint operation and arrested one of the accused from Karagari village. He has said that 'On the basis of information of another jihadi caught from Tamulpur on Monday, he has been arrested. He has been handed over to the investigation team in Tamulpur.'
