In a tweet on December 20, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said that the police in Karbi Anglong district had seized more than 1,000 illegal squatters who were members of inter-state narcotics traffickers.The drugs were recovered by the police in Borjan Mouza (Block No 3, Dudu Colony) in Karbi Anglong's Bokajan Subdivision.
"In a huge campaign Assam Police evicted 1050 illegal squatters, part of inter-state drugs cartels, from Borjan Mouza (Block No 3, Dudu Colony) under Bokajan Subdivision in Karbi Anglong district," Sarma stated in the tweet."This is a major blow to the drug supply chain and storage areas," he said.
The state's Director-General of Police (DGP), Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta, has earlier said that the operation will be carried out by the police. "As part of our 'War on Drugs,' today we destroyed 115 squatter huts from Dudu Colony, Bokajan, Karbi Anglong," he said on Twitter.
