Guwahati: In a large area of the country's northeastern state of Assam, the life of people is becoming difficult day by day. The fire has erupted in the Bagajan region of Assam for about 150 days. After a chemical explosion on June 9 this year, a fire broke out in a gas well of the state government's Oil India Limited (OIL). Even after its 150 days have passed, flames are rising from here and it has become the longest fire in India so far.

Three people have lost their lives in extinguishing this fire and 3000 people have been forced to leave their homes and stay in the camp. Although many people have returned to their homes, but those whose house is close to the fire are still forced to stay in temporary camps. OIL has said that 12 families who lost their homes in the fire have been provided compensation of Rs 25 lakh each. For the expenses of the families who are forced to stay away from their homes in the camps, the company will continue to provide assistance of 50 thousand per month.

Many such accidents have been reported in India earlier also. In 1967, the fire in ONGC's well in Assam's Sivasagar district continued for 90 days even after hard work and all efforts. It took 65 days to extinguish the fire at the ONGC plant in Andhra Pradesh. In 2005, the fire in OIL's well in Assam's Dicom area was extinguished after 20 days.
