The Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, revealed that the state has successfully attracted investments totaling Rs 13,364 crore in the past 14 months, leading to the creation of over 17,000 job opportunities. These investments stem from 21 proposals endorsed by the state cabinet under the Industrial and Investment Policy of Assam (IIPA), 2019.

"The IIPA underwent modifications in 2023 to allure mega investments exceeding Rs 100 crore, ensuring the creation of at least 200 permanent positions," stated Sarma in a recent announcement.

While 14 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) were signed earlier, seven additional agreements were sealed just recently.

"In January 2023, we introduced a policy tailored to provide incentives for mega investors. Today, seven more companies have pledged to generate 6,500 jobs with an investment of Rs 2,000 crore," Sarma elaborated.

Over the past 14 months, Assam has successfully attracted investments amounting to Rs 13,364 crore and facilitated the creation of 17,700 jobs through this policy, Sarma emphasized.

Some notable companies that have signed MoUs include PepsiCo India, Star Cement, Jericho Chemicals, Indian Hotels Company Ltd, Maxim Infrastructure Pvt Ltd, and Topcem India LLP, as per officials.
