Kolkata: Minor incidents of sporadic violence are coming to light during the by-elections in Kaliaganj, Kharagpur Sadar and Karimpur assembly seats in West Bengal. The most stressful situation is that of Karimpur. TMC activists shouted slogans, encircling BJP candidate Jayaprakash Majmudar here. It is alleged that it also had a large number of voters and was mostly from the minority community.

Police said that Jayaprakash Majumdar had arrived at Sahebpada in Karimpur when voting was going on in the morning. At the same time, TMC activists surrounded them and started shouting slogans. When the election observers got information about their people being surrounded, immediately the Quick Response Team was sent to the spot. An extensive lathi-charge led by SDPO was carried out to remove the slogans. Many people have been injured in this. However, Jayaprakash was safely evacuated.

Police and TMC activists clashed with Jayaprakash at the Nathibhanga polling station in Karimpur. Later, Central forces jawans escorted him out of the polling booth.
