Chandigarh: The dates for the Vidhan Sabha elections have been announced for Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana. Voting will be conducted in three phases in Jammu and Kashmir, while elections will be held in a single phase in Haryana. According to the Election Commission, the first phase in Jammu and Kashmir will be held on September 18, 2024, the second phase on September 25, 2024, and the third phase on October 1, 2024. Voting in Haryana will also take place on October 1, 2024.

A total of 8.7 million voters will exercise their franchise in Jammu and Kashmir. Given the security sensitivity of many areas in this state, voting has been divided into three phases. In contrast, 21 million voters in Haryana will elect their representatives on a single day, leading to heightened political activity in the state. Political activities have also intensified in Jammu and Kashmir.

The Election Commission has announced that the counting of votes for both states will take place on October 4, 2024. On this day, it will be clear which party or alliance will receive the mandate for the next five years. Political parties have ramped up their preparations for the elections in both states, and public discussions about various issues have increased.
