Ahmedabad: The Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has become active ahead of the Gujarat Assembly elections. The ATS has now taken major action and arrested 96 accused in the raids so far. In all, raids have been conducted at 200 locations so far. According to sources in the state Home Ministry, these accused are being arrested in cases of hawala, drug racket and money laundering.
In a joint operation of various agencies led by ATS, raids have been conducted at about 200 places associated with more than 100 companies in the state. Also, people are being questioned. Sources have informed that apart from ATS, the state Goods and Services Tax (GST) department, and Ahmedabad Crime Branch are involved in this big campaign. He said that this search operation is being conducted against 122 companies in many districts of the state including Ahmedabad, Bhavanagar and Jamnagar.
Officials are questioning around 74 suspects in this connection and the operation is likely to expose large-scale tax-related offences, the sources said. Sources have informed that recently many cases of issuing fake bills to fake input tax credit (ITC) fraud have come to light in the state. Earlier on Thursday, the ATS arrested an Afghan national from Delhi. From whom drugs were recovered.
