What is Zika Virus?
The virus is transmitted by the Aedes Mosquitoes. The symptoms are mild fever, skin rash, conjunctivitis, muscle and joint pains and headaches. The symptoms last for at least 2 to 7 days. It is a mosquito borne disease that was first identified in monkeys in Uganda in 1947 through a network that monitored yellow fever.
Treatment:
The virus is usually mild and requires no specific treatment. Patients should get plenty of rest, drink enough fluid and treat pain and fever with common medicines. If symptoms worsen, they should seek medical care and advice. There is currently no vaccine available.
Following the outbreak of Zika Virus in Singapore and Malaysia the authorities have now started screening passengers across major Indian airports from Thursday. The advisory from the Union Health Ministry asked the Mumbai airport to setup Zika help desk ahead of the immigration area at T2.
