Maruti Suzuki's popular entry-level car Alto (Alto) has created a new record. Maruti has stated on Tuesday that Alto sales have crossed 38 lakh units. Maruti Alto has become the first model in India to reach 38 lakh units of sales. The Alto is the best selling car in India for the last 15 consecutive years. Maruti Suzuki introduced the Alto in the year 2000. By 2008 1 million altos had been sold. Two years later, Maruti introduced the Alto K10 and in 2012 the company achieved a major sales of 2 million units of Alto. Maruti Suzuki Alto features safety features such as driver airbag, anti-lock braking system (ABS), electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD), reverse parking sensor, speed alert system, driver and co-driver seat belt reminder. Maruti Alto has been getting tough competition from Renault Kwid in terms of sales in recent years.

It is worth noting that Maruti Suzuki Alto (Alto 800 and Alto K10) is available in two variants. The Alto 800's ex-showroom price in Delhi is between Rs 2.89 lakh and Rs 4.09 lakh. At the same time, the Alto K10 has priced between Rs 3.61 lakh to Rs 4.40 lakh (ex-showroom price in Delhi). Maruti Suzuki launched the Alto 800 facelift in April 2019. It comes with BS6 compliant, 3 cylinders, 0.8-liter engine, which generates 48hp power and 69Nm peak torque. It has a 5-speed manual gearbox. Maruti launched the All-New Alto K10 in 2014 and the All-New Alto 800i in 2016. In the same year, Alto's number of subscribers reached 3 million.
