Indian airline carriers are anticipated to add 110 to 120 new aircraft every year in the next years, said Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia.

While speaking at the inaugural session of Wing India 2022, Scindia said that operators need to add more wide-bodied aircraft to their inventory in order to connect several global sites. The minister expressed hope about the rebounding air traffic data, saying that the number of domestic passengers is likely to reach 4.10 lakh per day by next year and will surpass that number by 2024-25 as the airline industry recovers in a "V" shape.

"India is on the verge of a massive expansion. Expansion in the airline industry, as well as expansion in the airport industry. As a result, fleet augmentation is essential. With the addition of 310 aircraft, a country that had a fleet of only 400 aircraft in 2013-14 has expanded to a fleet of 710 aircraft in the last seven years. In the future, we plan to add at least 110 to 220 planes per year," Scindia remarked.

On Thursday, a top Airbus official said the European aircraft manufacturer believes India to require around 2200 jets over the next two decades. According to the minister, India now has over 9000 pilots, 15 percent of whom are women. This figure was significantly higher than the global standard of 5 percent.
