New Delhi: The Ayushman Bharat scheme was launched by PRIME Minister Narendra Modi in 2018 to help provide health benefits to crores of Indians who are unable to get proper medical facilities due to a lack of funds. That is why this scheme is also called 'Modi Care' or 'National Health Protection Scheme'. Ayushman Bharat Diwas will be celebrated in the country today i.e. on April 30. The aim of the day is to increase affordable medical facilities even faster in remote areas of the country based on the socio-economic caste census database. It is the world's largest health scheme run by the central government.

The Ayushman Bharat scheme aims to provide healthcare to more than 10 crore families in India. These 10 crore households include 8 crore families in rural areas and 2.33 crore families in urban areas. Free health insurance up to Rs.5 lakh is also provided under the scheme.   The Ayushman Bharat scheme has more than 1,300 packages to cover treatment, including special tests such as cancer surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, cardiovascular surgery, neuro (brain) surgery, spine surgery, dental surgery, eye surgery and MRI and CT scan.  

The scheme is also identified as PM Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY). Most importantly, this scheme is completely paperless, cashless and IT-based. Under this, the Aadhaar card is not mandatory for the beneficiaries to avail of the services. Under this scheme, clinical treatment, health treatment and medicines are offered free of cost up to 3 days before and 15 days after the hospitalization of the patients. The benefit of this scheme can be availed by all, there is no limit on the age or gender of the person.
