Bahrain receives 10,800 Covishield doses from India

Bahrain on Thursday received a consignment of 10,800 coronavirus vaccines from India. After the consignment reached to its destination,  External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said that the delivery of the vaccines is a testimony of long-standing fraternal ties between the two countries.

Jaishankar took to Twitter and wrote, "Bahrain receives Made-in-India vaccines. A testimony to our long-standing fraternal ties." Bahrain has received the consignment of the Covishield vaccine developed by the Serum Institute of India. 

Under the Vaccine Maitri initiative, India is supplying vaccines to other countries.  Earlier in the day, a consignment containing over 50,000 doses of coronavirus vaccine reached Colombo, Sri Lanka. India under Neighbourhood First policy, provided vaccines to Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and Bangladesh. 

India has developed two corona vaccine.  the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine, known in India as Covishield, and a domestic product, Covaxin, developed by the pharmaceutical company Bharat Biotech.
