Lucknow: Four persons were run over by drunk car riders in Uttar Pradesh's Ballia on Friday night. Two people died in the accident, while two were seriously injured. Angry over the accident, the villagers damaged the car and tried to set the vehicle on fire. However, the police somehow managed to pacify the matter.

Chandrabhan Singh (60) and Madan Singh (50), both residents of Jamalpur in the area, were returning home on foot from Banshibazar Chatti. Meanwhile, an uncontrollable car coming from Maldah's side ran over the two. People started handling both the injured, and the car driver started running away with the vehicle. Meanwhile, 54-year-old Premshankar, a resident of Jhoridih, who was returning home on a bicycle at some distance, and 28-year-old Akhilesh Sharma, a resident of Hadsar, who was walking after buying vegetables, were also hit.

While trying to escape, the car collided with a tractor boring the borewell going towards Bilthara road. People in the vicinity reached the spot and caught hold of three people in the car and started beating them. However, some people rescued them from the clutches of the mob and drove them away. The angry mob tried to burn the car after damaging it. Meanwhile, the police reached the spot and pacified the situation and rushed the injured to the hospital.
