England's ODI cricket team captain Joe Root believes that the ban on the use of saliva to shine the ball can improve bowlers' skills. Root said that because of the ban on the use of saliva to shine the ball, bowlers will have to work hard to get help from the pitch, which can improve their skills. Root said that it can work in favor of bowlers and their skills can be increased.

Accuracy has to be improved: In a conversation with a sports website, Root said, "The lack of support usually means that you have to improve your accuracy. Players need to find some other way to get help from the pitch. It may take more effort, change in angle at the crease, use of slant seam etc.

Suggestion to prohibit the use of saliva: Root said that our bowlers can prepare it in four to five weeks time. It is noteworthy that the Cricket Committee of the International Cricket Council (ICC), headed by former India spinner Anil Kumble, has suggested to prohibit the use of saliva to shine the ball when the game resumes. The ICC has also prohibited the use of saliva on the ball in its guidelines to resume cricket.
