Bangladesh’s interim foreign affairs advisor, Mohammed Touhid Hossain, has indicated that the country might seek the extradition of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina due to numerous legal cases against her. In a recent interview in Dhaka, Hossain noted that such a move could create diplomatic complications for India.
Hossain explained that with multiple cases pending against Hasina, Bangladesh's home and law ministries might request her return. However, he acknowledged that such a request could place India in a difficult position. "If there is a demand from our ministries, it would require India to address the situation. I believe the Indian government is aware of this and will handle it accordingly," Hossain stated.
Hasina traveled to India on August 5, following violent student protests against her in Bangladesh. According to reports, a complaint has been filed against her and 24 others with the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague, alleging human rights violations.
Hossain also mentioned that Professor Mohammad Yunus, a Nobel Laureate and a prominent figure in Bangladesh, is displeased with recent statements from India concerning Hasina. Yunus has expressed his dissatisfaction to the Indian High Commissioner.
