Patna: On Saturday, October 5, a Bangladeshi national named Nawab, who had been living illegally in India since 2021, was arrested from Rampur Kudarkatti village in Bihar’s Araria district. Nawab, originally from Chapainawabganj in the Rajshahi Division of Bangladesh, infiltrated India by crossing the Nagar river with the help of agents, for which he paid a sum of money.

After entering India, Nawab initially stayed at his aunt’s house in Katihar, Bihar, before relocating to Araria. Approximately 1.5 years ago, he married an Indian woman named Rangeela Khatun, and the couple has a daughter, Nusrat Khatoon. Nawab’s illegal status was exposed when he attempted to apply for an Indian passport. Before this, he had successfully acquired an Indian voter ID card by paying a Booth Level Officer (BLO). He had been living in Ward No. 11 of Rampur Kudarkatti Panchayat under a false identity.

While seeking document verification for his passport application, Nawab visited Nagar police station and was instructed to get his documents validated by the Panchayat Head. When he approached Rampur Kudarkatti Panchayat President Pammi Devi, she became suspicious of his documents and informed her husband, Rajesh Singh. Singh grew alarmed upon noticing that Nawab’s voter ID card listed his wife’s name instead of his father’s name. Additionally, a villager’s name was recorded as his father’s name on Nawab’s Aadhar card.

Upon being questioned, Nawab confessed to being a Bangladeshi national who had illegally entered India three years earlier. Singh promptly alerted the Nagar police station, leading to Nawab’s arrest. He is now in custody, and police are interrogating him further. The investigation has been expanded with the involvement of Immigration and Intelligence officials.

This incident follows the recent arrest of four illegal immigrants from Bangladesh at Dharmanagar railway station in Tripura last month. Additionally, Maharashtra police recently arrested a porn actress, Riya Barde, who had been staying in India under forged identities. She was found to be a Bangladeshi national operating under multiple aliases, including Arohi Barde and Banna Sheikh.
