Bangalore: Senior leader Basavaraj Horati on Wednesday joined the BJP after resigning from the post of Karnataka Legislative Council chairman and its member on Monday. Horati has joined the party in the presence of CM Basavaraj Bommai, former CM Jagdish Shettar, BJP national general secretary CT Ravi, state government ministers R Ashok, Govind Karjol, CC Patil and others.

Bommai further said, 'Basavaraj Horati has been a member of the Legislative Council for nearly 45 years and has served as the Chairman and Minister. He has a lot of experience and everyone respects him. He has been working for the teachers. After deciding to join BJP, he met Union Home Minister Amit Shah and joined the party today after resigning from his post.

CM Bommai told the press that a big program would be organized in Hubballi soon on the occasion of Horati joining the party. Horati left the Janata Dal (Secular) and joined the BJP. He has been elected to the Legislative Council for seven consecutive terms since 1980. The party can make him a candidate from the West Teachers' Constituency in the upcoming Legislative Council elections.
