Kolkata: Indian cricket team's batting coach Sanjay Bangar may be on leave. India's bowling coach Bharat Arun is almost certain to continue as well, while R Sridhar is likely to be preferred despite several contenders including South African Dhurandhar Jonti Rhodes. The trio has been extended to the end of the upcoming West Indies tour with head coach Ravi Shastri.

There will be fresh interviews and appointments for all posts. The new Cricket Advisory Committee headed by Kapil Dev will take up the matter with the head coach. The selectors have been asked to conduct interviews for the support staff. According to sources close to Arun, Arun is bound to stay as Indian bowlers have performed well in all formats.

A senior board official said Arun has done a very good job for 18 to 20 months. The current Indian bowling attack is the best for the Test. Mohammed Shami is in form and Jaspreet Bumrah continues to perform well, thanks to Arun. It will be difficult for the selectors to prefer someone else to replace them.

This cannot be said about Bangar though. Many think that despite four years in office, he could not stand a strong middle order. The official said Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were doing well even before the arrival of Bangar. Bangar has no contribution to his success. His job was to strengthen the middle order and in the World Cup, we saw that he failed miserably.
