Bayern beat Dortmund to win the German Super Cup title for the eighth time

Bayern Munich, the champions of the 2019-20 Bundesliga and winners of the 2019-20 DFB-Pokal defeated Borussia Dortmund, the runners-up of the Bundesliga and the holders of the DFL-Super Cup. Bayern Munich defeated Borussia Dortmund 3-2 to win the German Super Cup title and the fifth piece of Silverware in 2020. Joshua Kimmich’s goal in the 82nd minute assured the victory. With this win, Bayern has captured the Bundesliga, German Cup, UEFA (Union of European Football Associations) champions’ league and UEFA Super Cup in a span of three months. This is their Sixth trophy at the Club World Cup this winter.

The first goal from Bayern side at the 18th minute and the second at the 32nd minute whereas its rivalry marked its first goal at 39th minute and second at 55th minute. Hansi Flick, Bayern team coach, who took over in November said, “It was not that easy especially in the second half. We led 2-0 but then made our own life difficult. What counts is that we won the game. Everything else we will need to do better on Sunday (against Hertha Berlin league play)”.

This is Bayern eighth Super Cup title win. Out of 14 appearances, Bayern Munich has won 8 times whereas Borussia Dortmund out of 11 appearances has won 6 times in history. Out of eight years they faced each other in the ground, 4 matches Bayern Munich has won and four times Borussia Dortmund has won. An additional highlight of this match is Bibiana Steinhaus, a female referee; it was her last game before her retirement. In 2017 she has became the first female referee to oversee men’s Bundesliga games. The match was conducted inside the closed Allianz Arena, Munich.
