The country's first female para athlete Deepa Malik is celebrating her birthday today.  She is a handicapped Indian sportspersons who is associated with swimming and motor wrestling along with shotput and Javelin throw. She created history by winning a silver medal in shotput at the 2016 Paralympics. Despite three tumor surgeries at the age of 30 and the lower part of the body being numb, she has not only won medals in the national international competition in shotput and jewellery throw, but has also participated in several events in swimming and motor wrestling. She has won 33 gold and 4 silver medals in India's national competitions. She is the first woman in India to be invited to the Himalayan car rally.

In the years 2008 and 2009, she registered her name in the Limca Book of World Records twice by participating in swimming and special bike rides in the river Yamuna. In 2007, she won the silver and bronze medals in Taiwan and 2008 in Berlin by participating in the Javelin throw and swimming. She was also selected in the Commonwealth Games team. She was conferred the Arjuna Award by the Government of India due to her remarkable achievements in the Paralympic Games. Deepa won her first medal (bronze) in the shot put in 2009. It was amazing that in England, shotput, Javelin throw she won the gold medal in all three. She won the bronze medal at para Asian Games in China. Deepa became the first Indian woman to win bronze.

Deepa won the silver medal at the World Athletics Championships in 2011. She won two bronze medals at the World Games in Sharjahan that same year. She on two gold medals in Javelin and discus throw at the Malaysia Open Athletics Championships in the year 2012. Shw won the gold medal at the Shotput at the China Open Athletics Championships in Beijing in 2014. Deepa had announced her retirement on 13th May 2020.
