The BCCI Apex Council is set to meet on Wednesday to address several important matters concerning the Board’s operations. However, the appointment of a new secretary to succeed Jay Shah, who has been elected as the next ICC Chairman, will not be discussed. This meeting will be the final one before the Board's 93rd Annual General Meeting in Bengaluru, which takes place in just five days.
Although Shah will take on the ICC role starting December 1, he will continue as BCCI Secretary during the upcoming AGM. The agenda for the Apex Council meeting includes eight items, but it does not feature discussions about the nomination process for the new secretary. Instead, topics such as updates regarding Byju's sponsorship matter will be on the table.
The BCCI has been dealing with a payment settlement issue with Byju's, its former title sponsor, which ended its sponsorship agreement in March of last year. Byju's, co-founded by Byju Raveendran, initially signed a jersey sponsorship deal in March 2019 for three years, later extending it for an additional year at a reported cost of $55 million.
While payments were made until September 2022, there is a dispute concerning unpaid dues from October 2022 to March 2023.
In addition to these topics, the council will also discuss the inauguration of a new National Cricket Academy, which is being built on the outskirts of Bengaluru. The academy has been operating at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium premises for over 20 years.
The agenda will also cover the approval for renovation work on the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai, as well as the North East development project.
