New Delhi: The selection of Ajit Agarkar as the head selector of India's men's cricket team is a historic decision in many ways. The BCCI abandoned its long-standing tradition of selecting selectors from different zones to ensure equal representation in order to secure an iconic name like Agarkar. This time, despite the committee already having a member from the West Zone (Salil Ankola), they chose Agarkar based on his size rather than his location of origin.

The BCCI's subpar compensation was apparently one of the main reasons why eminent former cricketers didn't show interest in joining India's senior selection committee. The senior men's team captain of India receives a yearly salary of one crore, while the other four members each receive 90 lakh. Compared to other high-profile positions involving the men's team, this is notably low. Even that will apparently be fixed for Agarkar by the BCCI.

The Indian senior men's team skipper makes one crore per year, while the other four players each make 90 lakh. This is noticeably low when compared to other high-profile roles involving the men's squad. The BCCI would reportedly correct even that for Agarkar.

At that point, BCCI made the decision to lift its game. According to sources, Agarkar was the lone candidate for the chief selector position interviewed by the Cricket Advisory Committee, which also included Ashok Malhotra, Jatin Paranjape, and Sulakshana Naik. And the BCCI got in touch with him, promising him a better compensation deal.

A final decision about Agarkar's compensation is expected to be made during the BCCI Apex Council meeting on Friday.

Agarkar chose an Indian T20I team that would focus on the future during his first selection committee meeting, along with the other four selectors Subroto Banerjee, S Sharath, Salil Ankola, and SS Das.

Due to the new selection committee's desire to look ahead, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were not included in India's T20I team for the five-match series against the West Indies. It has been heard that unless there is a significant alteration, Kohli and Rohit won't be considered for T20Is. Since the World Cup in Australia last year, the pillars of Indian cricket have not participated in a T20I match.

Yashasvi Jaiswal and Tilak Varma, two young players, received their first call-ups, while Avesh Khan, Sanju Samson, and Ravi Bishnoi rejoined the team. Axar Patel's pick over Ravindra Jadeja was another surprising decision. Jadeja, on the other hand, is thought to have been rested in contrast to Kohli or Rohit.
