Kolkata: In a distressing turn of events, the Ghoksandanga police station has directed a woman, who was brutally assaulted by TMC supporters in Cooch Behar for her affiliation with the BJP, to submit her torn clothes for investigation purposes. The incident, which occurred ten days ago, sparked outrage after BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari shared a notice issued under Section 91 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC).
According to the notice, Senior Inspector Avijit Sarkar mandated the victim to surrender her saree, blouse, and petticoat (shaya) to the police station by Saturday, 6th July, at 10 am. The victim, a leader in the BJP Minority Morcha, was subjected to a vicious attack that left her disrobed, molested, and severely beaten by TMC assailants in Ruidanga village.

Suvendu Adhikari condemned the police action, accusing them of compounding the victim's trauma by demanding the clothes forcibly stripped from her during the assault. He criticized what he described as the Mamata Police's insensitivity and biased handling of the case, suggesting their intent was to intimidate the victim rather than seek justice.
Describing the harrowing incident on 25th June, reports indicated that the victim was dragged for a kilometer by her hair, physically assaulted for over an hour, and threatened by the TMC group for her political affiliations. The assailants also allegedly photographed her naked and circulated the images on social media platforms, prompting widespread condemnation.
The victim's father filed a complaint with the police, detailing the sustained harassment his daughter endured leading up to the assault. The local TMC cadre had reportedly restricted her movements since the announcement of the Lok Sabha elections, culminating in the violent attack near her home.
In response to the escalating controversy, Adhikari reiterated his demand for a fair investigation, calling for the case to be transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to ensure impartiality. He urged immediate suspension of the Investigating Officer (IO) and the Officer-in-Charge of Ghoksadanga PS, citing their biased conduct and the humiliation inflicted upon the victim.
The BJP leader emphasized the need for accountability within law enforcement, arguing that the authorities' actions must prioritize justice and support for victims of political violence. He concluded by condemning the treatment of the victim as disgraceful and called for urgent reforms to prevent such incidents from recurring in West Bengal.
As the case unfolds, it underscores broader concerns about political intimidation and violence in the region, raising questions about the safety and rights of individuals expressing differing political beliefs.
