Bengaluru violence: 58 more people arrested, extension of section 144

Bengaluru: 58 more people have been arrested in the case of violence in the DJ Halli and KG Halli area of Bengaluru. A total of 52 cases have been registered against them in riots, loot, arson and other sections of IPC including ruining public properties. Apart from this, section-144 (prohibitory orders) applicable in the violence affected areas has been extended till August 18, which is Tuesday morning.

On Sunday, Bengaluru East Deputy Commissioner of Police SD Sharanappa said in this regard, 'We have arrested 58 accused since Friday. So far 264 accused have been arrested in the riot case. The main accused is in our custody and we are questioning him'. Apart from this, the remaining accused have been sent to judicial custody for fourteen days. They have been locked in prison in the city and Bellary. Earlier in the charge of instigating the police riot, Congress councilor of Nagavara, Irshad Begum, has arrested Hasim Kalim Pasha.

On Tuesday night, there was a lot of violence in the night area of the Congress MLA Akhand Srinivas Murthy's nephew Naveen from Pulakeshinagar assembly seat in Karnataka. People from the community specials had burnt MLA Srinivas's residence. DJ Halli Police Station was also targeted. Many people, including more than 50 policemen, were injured in this inflammatory violence.
