Bentley was no exception. The company recently announced the end of its flagship Mulsanne sedan, the last Crew vehicle with roots predating VW. Substitutions are unlikely. But rationalization itself is healthy. The new Flying Spur meets the challenge of being Bentley's only saloon far superior to its predecessor. And the Maybach is probably just as well-made, albeit a little less daring. However, I don't mind sleeping like a sedated rhino.
Would you like to drive yourself? Bentley every time. It's not the quietest or smoothest of the two, but it's a car you really want to drive. There are real reactions and responses rather than orientation opportunities.
First remove the Maybach. First, as a driver, you feel detached and pushed forward, while the vaulted roofline draws your attention to the hollow space behind. It reminds me of old sedans that take drivers outside. The layout is very S class, no issues with that. The S650 has a great powertrain. Equipped with a 6.0-liter V12 biturbo engine (an engine that is now definitely endangered), it produces 621 horsepower and 737 Nm of torque at 2,300 rpm. Do you need that much power? It feels half a ton lighter than it actually is and is really sporty.
But you can also move, whisper and wave almost seamlessly with your Maybach. No other luxury car has the range, the desire to drive, and the ability to move forward with no apparent effort or effort. It gives the Flying Spur a true duality. I tried to throw the Merc, but it quickly felt nasty and cruel. But Bentley takes it up a notch and knows how to control itself, give back information and ensure a good time. And doing it makes him feel special.

The Bentley experience has a warmth and character that a Maybach lacks. And the driving environment is great. The Mercedes-Maybach S650 has a role to play, but it only concerns a small fraction of the world's population. What it does is definitely better than others. But it's not a winner. The Flying Spur is a luxury sedan that is also truly sporty. Looking back at the iconic Arnage is something Bentley can be proud of. Ideally, it would have more room in the rear (maybe there will be a long-wheelbase version as well), but it's still worth the approach. Best car in the world?
