Chandigarh: The chief ministers of Haryana and Punjab held a big meeting on Friday following the Supreme Court order on the Sutlej-Yamuna Link (SYL) canal issue. Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann were also present at the meeting. CM Khattar said after the meeting, 'No consensus has been reached in today's meeting. The Supreme Court had directed us to build a canal. We presented our side, but Punjab did not agree to it. We will now inform the apex court and Union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Shekhawat about the meeting.'

At the same time, Bhagwant Mann has told that 'There was a meeting with Haryana on the issue of SYL, in which there was a very long discussion. We had also done a lot of homework and I arrived with all my officers. I put forth Punjab in a very strong way, which was not put forward earlier.' Haryana said that SYL should be created. We said we don't have water. Both CMs do this, go to PM Modi, he will find a solution on how to give water to Haryana.

The SYL dispute between the two states has been going on since 1981. When the matter went to the apex court, the verdict came in favour of Haryana. The Supreme Court had given an opportunity to both states to implement this decision in 4 months. Under the order of the Supreme Court, the Chief Ministers of both states have to file a reply in the court by October 15 after the meeting.
