India to produce 30 million doses of Covaxin next month

New Delhi: India Biotech will produce 30 million doses of covaxin next month to support the corona vaccination campaign in The Sh. The company's chairman and managing director Krishna Ella said this on Tuesday. The company had produced 1.5 crore doses of covaxin in March.

The vaccine manufacturer said in a statement that it has increased the annual production capacity of covaxin to 700 million doses. Ella's statement comes at a time when PM Narendra Modi has asked vaccine manufacturers to increase vaccine production in which all countrymen can be vaccinated in the shortest possible time. The government has also allowed Serum Institute of India (SII) and Bharat Biotech to make advance payments of Rs 4,500 crore to increase supply in future.

Ella said at an event that the company is going to start two new vaccine plants in Bengaluru. The company had initially started production from a plant. The company now has four plants in operation in Hyderabad. He said, "Last month we produced 1.5 crore doses. This month we are producing two crore doses. Next month, we will produce three crore doses. This will be followed by a production of 7 to 7.5 crore doses".
