On Thursday, the Ministry of External Affairs said that they have decided to bring back about one lakh Indians trapped in 60 countries under the second phase of the Vande Bharat Mission. Preparations for the third phase are also in full swing. Foreign Ministry spokesman Anurag Shrivastava said in the online media briefing, 'Vande Bharat Mission is in full flow. The first phase lasted from 7–16 May, in which 16,716 Indians were repatriated. The second phase started from 17 May and will run on 13 June. So far, 45,216 Indians have been brought back. These include 8,069 migrant workers, 7,656 students and 5,107 professionals.

In his statement, the spokesman said that 'About five thousand Indians have entered India from the borders of Nepal and Bangladesh. A total of 3,08,200 in the embassies abroad have registered themselves for return to India. In the second phase, Air India has plans for 429 flights to 60 countries. There will be 311 international flights and 118 feeder flights. Private aircraft companies will also be helped in this phase. The number of aircraft can also be increased as per the facility of chartered flight and quarantine.

According to Srivastava, "Indian Navy will make four more rounds to bring back the stranded Indians in Sri Lanka and the Maldives. We are also trying to evacuate Indians trapped in remote areas of Latin America, Africa and Europe etc."
