Amid lockdown, Pradeep alias Bhima Kunjam, deputy commander of Platoon 24 of the Naxalite organization operating in Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh, surrendered to the police on Thursday. A reward of eight lakh rupees is declared on him. He was involved in an ambush at Burkapal in Sukma district and killed 25 CRPF personnel.

While surrendering to DIG CRPF DN Lal and SP Dr Abhishek Pallav in SP office, Pradeep quit Naxalism. He told that he has been working in the Naxalite organization since 2008. In addition to Sukma's incident, he was involved in attacking the force on Patrolling in Kirandul's Patelpara on 26 June 2011. Three constables including TI DN Nagvanshi were martyred in that attack.

Apart from this, in May 2012, CISF's vehicle was blown up by a bomb blast along with colleagues near Madenda Nala. Five soldiers were killed and one civilian was killed in it. Maoist leader Gopi Modiam alias Mangal, who was active in the Gangalur Area Committee of Naxalites in Bijapur district, surrendered to the police recently for the love of female Maoist deputy commander Bharti alias Rame. Also, Gopi Modiyam had served in various positions in the Gangalore Area Committee. He was expelled from the Naxalite organization several times due to the love affair. Now for the sake of love, he decided to abandon the path of Maoist ideology and violence.
