Bharti Airtel Refutes Allegations of Data Breach

Bharti Airtel has strongly denied allegations of a data breach following unverified reports claiming that personal details of 375 million Airtel subscribers were available for sale on the dark web.

In response to these claims, an Airtel spokesperson clarified, "Based on our initial investigation, we can confirm that there has been no data breach of Airtel's systems."

The alleged incident surfaced when a hacker, identified as 'xenZen,' purportedly attempted to sell a database containing sensitive information of Airtel India customers. This included mobile numbers, birthdates, Aadhaar IDs, email addresses, and more, with a price tag of $50,000 USD (approximately Rs 41 lakh) in cryptocurrency.

The disclosure was made public by Dark Web Informer, a platform that monitors activities on the dark web.

Dark Web Informer on X.com reported that an individual named xenZen was advertising a dataset containing information on 375 million Airtel India users on BreachForums. The dataset allegedly included personal details such as names, family information, contact details, Aadhaar information, and more.

Interestingly, the seller also claimed responsibility for the recent data leak involving the Indian Ministry of External Affairs. This leak, discovered at the end of last month, reportedly involved approximately 200,000 user data records from the ministry's eMigrate portal. However, the veracity of the hacker's assertions remains unconfirmed in both instances.
