Lucknow: Rakesh Tikait, who was the big face of the farmers' agitation from the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU), has been thrown out of the organisation. His brother Naresh Tikait has also been removed from the post of president. In his place, Rajesh Chauhan has been appointed as the president. On the occasion of the death anniversary of BKU founder late Chaudhary Mahendra Singh Tikait, a big meeting of BKU leaders was held at the Sugarcane Farmers' Institute in Lucknow on Sunday, May 15, in which the decision has been taken against the Tikait brothers.
There are signs of a split in the Bharatiya Kisan Union after this resentment among the farmers against the Tikait family. In fact, many members of the BKU were seen upset about the activities of the organisation's national spokesperson Rakesh Tikait. These farmer leaders allege that Rakesh Tikait gave a political shape to their apolitical organization through his political statements and activities. On receiving the news of the BKU leaders' displeasure, Rakesh Tikait also reached Lucknow on Friday night to convince them. However, they could not succeed in this exercise.
At the residence of BKU vice-president Harinam Singh Verma, who was leading the angry farmer leaders, Rakesh Tikait tried to convince the disgruntled leaders of the organisation. However, without success, Tikait returned to Muzaffarnagar.
