Bhopal: Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the chief minister of Madhya Pradesh, sent greetings to Bhopal people on Thursday in honour of Bhopal Gaurav Diwas and declared that starting in 2024, June 1 will be a public holiday in Bhopal.

"Today we celebrate Bhopal Gaurav Divas like an Independence Day. Bhopal did not get independence on August 15, 1947, the day on which India got independence.' At the time, the Nawab of Bhopal rejected the city's incorporation into India. Following that, a push to make Bhopal independent was started, CM Chouhan informed reporters. He said, "The then Nawab of Bhopal was forced to merge Bhopal into India because of the strict stand of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and because of the public movement."

"Since Bhopal became a constituent part of India on June 1, 1949, it has been decided to observe Bhopal Gaurav Diwas every June 1. I honour all the martyrs and liberation fighters who died in the Raisen district village of Boras. On the occasion of Bhopal Gaurav Divas, I convey my greetings to all of the city's citizens, the CM stated.

We shall establish a research institute that will do study on Bhopal in order to bring the real history of the disaster to the attention of everyone. After Bhopal was formally incorporated into India on June 1, Gaurav Diwas will be observed along with a government holiday beginning the next year. The chief minister said, "So that the children and the next generation will know that Bhopal merged in India on June 1 and we can remember those revolutionaries and martyrs who gave their lives in the merger of Bhopal."
