Bhopal: Four infants died in a massive fire in a Bhopal hospital last Monday night and the matter is now becoming political and statements of leaders have started pouring in one after the other. So far, the Madhya Pradesh government had claimed that 4 children have died, but now amidst all this, the Opposition Congress said last Wednesday, "A total of 14 children have died in the last 48 hours at the Kamala Nehru Children's Hospital.''

Not only that, Congress has demanded an inquiry by the sitting High Court Judge into the matter. On the other hand, the state government has said that four infants died in a fire at the Special Newborn Care Unit on Monday night. At the same time, it has been said that not all deaths can be linked to that incident. In the entire case, former Minister Jitu Patwari said, "The government is accepting the death of only four children, but the fact is that a total of 14 children have died in the hospital in the last 48 hours and these figures have been provided by the hospital administration itself.''

He further said, "We demand the government to get the incident investigated by a sitting High Court judge and state medical education minister Vishwas Sarang should resign.'' In this case, Medical Education Minister Vishwas Sarang said, "It is not correct to link all the deaths in the hospital to the fire incident. Only four children died within four hours of the fire. Generally, only those children who are underweight or premature are admitted to the Special Newborn Care Unit who are in a critical condition.''
