Union Minister of Civil Aviation Ram Mohan Naidu conducted a review meeting on the expansion of Bhubaneswar Airport on Friday. He announced that efforts are underway to increase the airport's capacity to 8 million passengers annually within the next month.

During the meeting, Naidu expressed his happiness at visiting the land of Lord Jagannath and emphasized the ongoing work to improve the airport's infrastructure. "I am very happy to be here on the land of Lord Jagannath. I have come here to review the Bhubaneswar airport. I have done a review with officials of the Airport Authority of India. There has been a lot of development that has happened at the Bhubaneswar airport. Today, Bhubaneswar Airport is connected to 20 cities, and internationally, it is linked with 4 cities. We have been making efforts to develop Bhubaneswar in the civil aviation sector," he said.

He added that the state's aviation sector has been advancing since the NDA government took office in Odisha.

"The T1 Terminal at Bhubaneswar Airport currently accommodates 4 million passengers annually. After completing security reorganization in the next month, we plan to double that capacity to 8 million. A new terminal will be built, and within two years, the overall capacity will further increase. We are also set to install new CAT II lighting within the next month, and construction of the new T3 Terminal will begin soon," Naidu said.

As part of the day's events, the minister also participated in the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign by planting a tree at the airport.

Additionally, the link building between Terminal T1 and T2 at Biju Patnaik International Airport was highlighted as a major development. This new facility, covering 3,360 sqm, connects the international and domestic terminals, allowing passengers from the International Terminal (T2) to use the Passenger Boarding Bridges (PBB) at the Domestic Terminal (T1). This improvement is expected to significantly enhance passenger convenience and operational efficiency, particularly benefiting international airlines and passengers.
