Chhattisgarh: Bhupesh Baghel, the Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, and Sachin Pilot, the former Deputy Chief Minister of Rajasthan, are expected to visit Congress interim President Sonia Gandhi in New Delhi on Friday, according to reports. For both leaders, the debate agenda could be different.
Sachin Pilot is pressing for a change, while Baghel is dealing with an internal split. However, as a key observer of the party in the state, the Chief Minister has been summoned to discuss the 2022 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, according to sources. The meeting on Friday comes a day after Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot met with Sonia Gandhi to discuss a possible cabinet reshuffle, and sources say Pilot has been summoned to handle state-related concerns.
Pilot met with KC Venugopal on Thursday, ahead of the Gehlot-Sonia Gandhi meeting. Following his discussion with Sonia Gandhi, Gehlot stated that he will follow the leadership's decision and that he has informed her of everything. Since the Covid epidemic broke out, the long-awaited cabinet reshuffle and appointments have been on hold. The by-elections for the Assembly have also been postponed.
Meanwhile, Congress sources said that Rajasthan Health Minister Raghu Sharma and Revenue Minister Harish Choudhary may be stripped of their cabinet posts after being named party in-charges of Gujarat and Punjab, respectively.
