Raipur: Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel said on Monday that he and other Congress CMs want Rahul Gandhi to continue as the party's national president. In a brief interaction with the press before the start of the meeting between the Chief Ministers and Rahul Gandhi, Baghel said, "We want Rahulji to continue as President.  They should continue to lead the party."

Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot had made a similar statement earlier Monday. Rahul Gandhi, however, told the press that he was adamant on quitting as speaker in the wake of the defeat in the Lok Sabha elections. Amarinder Singh from Punjab, Kamal Nath from Madhya Pradesh and V.Narayanasamy from Puducherry are also attending the meeting. It may be mentioned that Rahul Gandhi had offered to resign as Chairman at the Congress Working Committee meeting held on May 25 following the congress' humiliating defeat in the Lok Sabha elections.

However, the members of the Working Committee rejected their offer and authorized them to make a radical change. Since then, Rahul Gandhi has been adamant about his continued resignation. However, several top party leaders have urged him to continue to lead the Congress.
