Thimphu: The news that Bhutan has stopped watering 25 villages of Assam is proved to be fake. Bhutan gave clarification on this and said that the supply of water going to Bhutan to Assam continues. The Finance Minister of Bhutan said in a Facebook post that, "The flow of water from Bhutan to the Indian state of Assam continues with the local people to ensure that the means of irrigation are in place."

Officials in his country have said, "Water is being supplied continuously to our peasant friends of India from Dapham-Udalguri, Samrang-Bhangatar, Motonga-Bokajule and Samdrapongkhar." It is notable that earlier there was news that Bhutan has stopped releasing channel water for irrigation along the Indian border near Assam, which has badly affected thousands of farmers in 25 villages of the area.

It was also said that a protest was also organized by local farmers against stopping the water, which flows through the man-made irrigation channel 'Dong' to grow paddy. For your information, let us tell you that farmers of India and Bhutan have been using this channel since 1953.
