Washington: In a startling revelation, U.S. President Joe Biden has voiced his concerns about a potential connection between the recent terrorist attack by Hamas on Israel and the announcement of the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEEC) during the G-20 Summit in New Delhi. This ambitious project aims to create a vast network of railroads, integrating the entire region, and has garnered attention worldwide.

The unprecedented terrorist attacks by Hamas on October 7 left more than 1,400 people dead, prompting a massive counter-offensive by Israel. President Biden, speaking at a joint news conference with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, emphasized that his analysis is based on instinct, lacking concrete proof. "I'm convinced one of the reasons Hamas attacked when they did, and I have no proof of this, just my instinct tells me, is because of the progress we were making towards regional integration for Israel, and regional integration overall. We can’t leave that work behind,” Biden said.

This is not the first time President Biden has mentioned the potential impact of the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor on recent events. The IMEEC, viewed by many as an alternative to China's Belt and Road Initiative, was jointly announced by the leaders of the U.S., India, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, France, Germany, Italy, and the European Union on the sidelines of the G20 summit in September.

The corridor comprises an eastern corridor connecting India to the Gulf region and a northern corridor linking the Gulf region to Europe. The initiative has the potential to reshape the economic landscape of the entire region. In recent weeks, President Biden has engaged in discussions with various leaders throughout the region, including King Abdullah of Jordan, President Sisi of Egypt, President Abbas of the Palestinian Authority, and the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia. These conversations have centered on the importance of fostering hope in the region and working towards greater integration for Israel while ensuring the aspirations of the Palestinian people are not overlooked.

The possible connection between the IMEEC and the timing of the Hamas attack raises critical questions about the complex dynamics of the Middle East. As the situation continues to unfold, the world watches with bated breath, hoping for stability and a better future in the region.
