WASHINGTON US President Joe Biden has signed a USD1.5 trillion omnibus budget bill for fiscal year 2022 into law, funding the federal government through the end of September.

"With this bill, we're going to send a strong message to the American people, a strong message that Democrats and Republicans can actually come together and get something done," Biden said at the White House on Tuesday, adding that the bill will "fulfil our most basic responsibilities" to keep the government open, as per reports.

The package, which was passed by the United States Congress last week, includes USD730 billion in non-defense budget and USD782 billion in defence funding. In addition, the measure includes USD13.6 billion in additional money for humanitarian, security, and economic aid relating to the Ukraine war. However, the agreement does not include additional Covid-19 funds requested by the White House to bolster the federal government's response to the pandemic.

"As we approach a new phase of the pandemic, Congress has failed to provide us with the resources we require to sustain the Covid-19 response and reduce the pandemic's impact on the Nation and our economy," the White House stated in a fact sheet on Tuesday.

"Failure to fund these initiatives now, as the government has warned, will have serious implications because we will be unprepared to deal with a future influx. Waiting until we're in the midst of a surge will be too late "The White House stated.
