SAN FRANCISCO: US President Joe Biden has greeted  Elon Musk "lots of luck" for his trip to the Moon, as the Tesla Chief  expressed "super bad feeling" about the economy and decided to reduce  its workforce by 10 percent.

During a press event at the White House late Friday, Biden was asked about Musk's bleak outlook on the economy, to which he answered, "Lots of luck on his voyage to the Moon." "Thank you, Mr. President!" tweeted Musk, who has previously criticised Biden and just indicated that he will vote for Republicans in November's midterm elections.

Last year, NASA chose Elon Musk's SpaceX to continue developing the first commercial human lander, which will safely transport the next two American astronauts to the moon's surface.

One of those astronauts will go down in history as the first woman to walk on the Moon. The landing of the first person of colour on the lunar surface is another goal of the Artemis programme.

Four astronauts will be launched into lunar orbit on the Orion spacecraft by SpaceX's powerful Space Launch System rocket. Two members of the crew will then transfer to the SpaceX human landing system (HLS) for the final leg of their voyage to the Moon's surface.

They will board the lander for their short trip back to orbit after spending about a week exploring the surface, where they will meet up with Orion and their colleagues before returning to Earth.
