Nalanda: Two girls were charred to death after a cylinder exploded while cooking in Kamal Bigha village under the Bena police station area in Bihar's Nalanda district, police said on Saturday. However, Police said the incident occurred due to a short circuit causing the fire. The deceased have been identified as Vicky Kumar's two-year-old daughter Meenakshi and four-year-old Sonakshi. The incident has spread mourning in the entire area.

The incident took place on Thursday evening. Relatives said that food was being cooked on the gas stove on Thursday evening, due to which suddenly the cylinder caught fire. This caused a blast. Sonakshi and Meenakshi, who were playing there, caught fire. At that time, the elder members of the house had gone to the roof for some work. Seeing the house on fire, when the girl's mother screamed, with the help of the people of the village, both of them were admitted to Biharsharif Sadar Hospital for treatment, from where the doctor referred PMCH for better treatment in view of the serious condition. Both children died late on Thursday night during treatment at PMCH.

Vena station house officer Mukesh Kumar Srivastava said that on receiving the news, the police officer reached the spot at night. There was neither evidence of gas cylinder blasts nor gas cylinders in the room. Some people are spreading rumors of this in the wake of compensation. He said that the villagers were talking about the fire from the short circuit. However, the police are investigating all the points. He said that the officials of the gas agency will also come and investigate it. Only then the matter will be clear.
