Big threat looms over Mumbai, central govt took this big step

Mumbai: The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in the country's financial capital Mumbai has decided to appoint a high-level multi-disciplinary team to take stock of the rise in measles cases. Let me tell you that many cases of measles have been reported in Mumbai these days. This team will help the state health officers in establishing public health measures and facilitate the operation of necessary control and prevention measures.

The three-member central team for Mumbai includes experts from the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), New Delhi, Lady Hardinge Medical College (LHMC), New Delhi and the Regional Health and Family Welfare Office, Pune, Maharashtra. The team is led by Dr Anubhav Srivastava, Deputy Director, Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP), NCDC.  

The team will visit the field and help the state health departments in connection with public health measures, management guidelines and protocols to manage the rising cases of measles being reported in Mumbai. Let us know that measles is a serious viral infection found in children. Vaccination for measles is done in India. Mumbai has suddenly seen an increase in cases of this disease. That is why an expert panel has been formed. Measles also spread through coughing, sneezing or contact with the skin of an infected person.
