Patna: A few days after his remarks against the Brahmins sparked controversy, Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) chief Jitan Ram Manjhi hosted a banquet for the Brahmin community members as well as Dalits on Monday. However, the Brahmins alleged that Hindustani Awam Morcha workers and party supporters mauled them in the programme.

Former CM had said earlier this month that Brahmins used to go to Dalit houses but did not eat there and demanded money instead. Chuda, curd, tilkut and vegetables were served to the individuals at the banquet on Monday. But there was an uproar when a Brahmin alleged that he was abused by the supporters of our party. Some others have made similar allegations.

Talking to the media outside the former CM's residence, Brahmin leader Yash Raj said, "We did not like the way food was being served in front of us. When we objected to that, Manjhi's reporters fought. If they don't have respect for us, why did they invite us? After that, we boycotted the banquet. Our party chief Manjhi was one of those who served food to the people present. Yash Raj claimed that Manjhi placed conditions before our people. Who is he to ask us what we eat and what we don't? Manjhi is not an officer. All the Brahmins who raised the issue in the programme were assaulted by Hindustani Awam Morcha supporters. Again, despite several attempts, Manjhi and Hindustani Awam Morcha leaders could not be contacted.
