Patna: During the Bihar assembly elections and the by-election to the Valmiki Nagar Lok Sabha seat, the number of star campaigners of political parties has now been fixed at 30 instead of 40. The election commission issued a revised guideline on Thursday stating that the number of star campaigners of national and state-level bonded parties will now be 30. While the number of star campaigners of unrecogn recognized political parties will now be 15 instead of 20.

According to the Commission, this decision has been taken in view of the Corona epidemic. The election commission has extended the time period for the application of star campaigners by political parties. Now, within ten days instead of seven of the commencement of nominations, political parties will be able to hand over the list of star campaigners to the EC. Further, the Commission has directed that the political parties will have to give the district election functionary 48 hours before the election campaign is started by star campaigners so that all security arrangements can be made first.

In a directive issued to the Chief Electoral Officer of all States and Union territories, principal secretary of the Commission S. Yuhalung said that the Commission had asked for the release of a revised guideline on the possibility of overcrowding during the visit of star campaigners during the visit to Bihar in the past.
