Bihar govt increases purchase limit for Minister's vehicle by Rs 5 lakh

Patna: The Bihar government has decided to increase ministers' vehicle purchase limit by Rs 5 lakh. Cabinet ministers of the Bihar government are now eligible to travel in vehicles costing up to Rs 30 lakh, according to a notification issued by Lokesh Kumar, secretary of the Finance department (Resource division) on Monday evening.

Earlier, they were only allowed to travel in vehicles allotted by the state government and costing less than Rs 25 lakh, as per a notification issued by the state government in February 2020. According to sources, some automakers have increased the price of SUVs to more than Rs 25 lakh. Furthermore, some of the vehicles start at around Rs 30 lakh.

Aside from cabinet ministers, judges of the Patna High Court and other officials in similar positions are also eligible to purchase vehicles worth Rs 30 lakh. Officers in the ranks of Additional Chief Secretary, Principal Secretary, and Secretary-level officer are also entitled to travel in vehicles costing up to Rs 20 lakh. Divisional Commissioners and District Magistrates are allowed to travel in vehicles costing up to 18 lakh rupees. District judges, Superintendents of Police, and other officers in similar categories can travel in vehicles costing up to Rs 13 lakh, while lower-ranking officers such as SDMs, DSPs, and others can travel in vehicles costing up to Rs 11 lakh.
