The platform of the litmus test will be a by-election in five assembly seats. All the parties of the grand alliance have started preparing to try their luck in the by-elections. Actually, 5 seats of the assembly have become vacant after some MLAs became MPs in the Lok Sabha elections. These include the seats of Kishanganj, Belhar, Simri Bakhtiyarpur, Nathanagar, and Darundha.

Four of these five seats were held by the JDU. JDU was involved in the grand alliance in the 2015 assembly elections. In the seat division, except for Kishanganj seat, four seats went to JDU. Now, these five seats are going to be held. Therefore, a rivalry race between the parties of the Grand Alliance has also started.
