Patna: A 10-wheeled gas cylinder truck parked outside a gas godown near Runisaidpur in Sitamarhi district adjoining Orai block of Muzaffarpur district of Bihar suddenly caught fire on Thursday morning. By the time the fire was controlled, the fire had intensified. The fire caused a blast in the truck cylinders. Apart from the truck driver and khalasi, the workers working at the gas godown have also fled the spot. There has been a stampede on the spot.

People heard blasts in cylinders from a distance of more than two km. The smoke was rising rapidly towards the sky. After receiving information about this, Sitamarhi and Muzaffarpur police stopped traffic on both sides of Runisaidpur Chowk in Muzaffarpur Sitamarhi NH 77 2 km in advance. A fire brigade team from Sitamarhi and Muzaffarpur rushed to the spot. But due to a lack of better resources with the fire brigade, rescue work was taken up from a distance. A team of administration fire brigade district police is camping at the spot. The surrounding township has also been reported to be evacuated as a precaution.

There are reportedly 11 petrol pumps in front and back of the godown. Their employees have also been alerted. Petrol sale has now been stopped. According to reports, a gas-loaded truck was parked at the gas godown adjacent to NH 77. It was loaded with more than 1200 commercial and non-commercial gas cylinders.
